Spires in Streatham are DOING THE LAMBETH ...
Streatham Celebrates the Games
Streatham Celebrates the Games with a parade of butterflies!
Saturday 23rd July 2011

Streatham saw its High Road transformed into a sea of butterflies on Saturday 23rd July to mark One Year to Go until the Olympic Games.
Local children dressed in rainbow coloured butterfly costumes plus sporting fans, stilt walkers and Chuka Umunna, Streatham’s MP processed along Streatham’s streets lead by professional carnival artists, South Connections, accompanied by the carnival sounds of Batuke Samba Band and Ancestral Hands drummers.
Supported by Lambeth Council, Streatham Town Centre, Streatham Action and the Friends of Streatham Green the parade took off from Sunnyhill House and walked most of the length of the High Road, passing local businesses and residents who could be seen hanging out of their doors and windows to support the parade as it headed towards Streatham Green.
Local residents and organisations including Transition Streatham, Friends of Streatham Green and the British Home eagerly awaited the arrival of the procession to Streatham Green where fencing, boxing and judo demonstrations were taking place alongside live music from South London’s finest steel pans, Southside Harmonics.
Faces were painted, flags were waived and Ethan Hitchings in football attire with toothless grin carried his homemade Olympic Torch with pride.
It was indeed, a great day of celebration in Streatham.
