Welcome to Angelina Purcell - Streatham's new Town Centre Manager
This is a very belated posting to say hello to Angelina Purcell, who is Lambeth Council’s new permanent “Town Centre Manager” for Streatham.
This is a much-needed return to the commercial focus in the Town Centre Manager role, and Angelina’s background running Croydon’s Chamber of Commerce has to be a good thing.
We look forward to working with Angelina and Streatham’s business community to make Streatham a better place, starting with Streatham High Road.
Please note that Angelina will not have to juggle the range of roles that Leah Levane did when her job was misleadingly given a similar title, and can’t be a one stop shop for all your complaints about the Borough!
Streatham Action (and the rest of the Borough’s Community Forums) continue to fight to ensure that named individuals in all parts of the council bureaucracy are accountable for the performance of the Lambeth’s services to Streatham and each of the other town centre in the borough, so that “heads can be knocked together” when necessary.
Extract from Lambeth’s press release follows:
Streatham Town Centre has a new permanent manager. Angelina Purcell MBE takes on the role of Streatham Town Centre manager to help shape work and projects to make the area an even better place to live, work or visit. Her appointment builds on plans to guide the regeneration and future development of the area, support local businesses, and encourage residents to shop locally.
She comes to Lambeth with a wealth of skills and experience having previously managed neighbouring Croydon’s town centre and holding the Chief Executive of Croydon Chamber of Commerce post for three years.
Lambeth Council is currently involved in progressing a number of exciting schemes for the Streatham area including a project to help fledgling independent businesses set up in unused shop premises, the development of the Streatham leisure hub and ice rink, and building on the agendas for the Streatham Business Breakfast meetings - a monthly networking opportunity for local businesses.
Angelina comments on her new role saying: “Streatham is a fantastic area with lots of places of interest and lots of development opportunities both for the environment and for the local communities. My personal goal is to play an active and substantial part in driving up the pace and number of improvements for the area.”
